Nawazuddin Siddiqui is an Indian actor who works mainly in hindi films. He was born on May 19, 1974 in Budhana a small town of Muzaffarnagar district, Uttar Pradesh, India in a zamindar muslim family to Nawabuddin Siddiqui and wife Mehroonisa Siddiqui. He has six brothers and two sisters and he is the eldest of nine siblings.
His brother Shamsuddin Siddiqui passed away as an infant.
Nawazuddin graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya, Haridwar. After this, he worked as a chemist in Vadodara for a year.
He is an alumnus of the National School of Drama and he graduated from NSD in 1996.
His real name is Nambardar Nawazuddin Siddiqui but he changed it to simply Nawazuddin Siddiqui for his acting career.
He made his acting debut in 1999 with a minor role in the Aamir Khan starrer Sarfarosh.
During his struggling years, he asked a NSD senior if he could stay with him. The senior allowed him to share his apartment in Goregaon on a condition that he will have to cook meals for him.
He was first noticed with his role of a journalist in Peepli Live (2010).
His first film in a lead role was Prashant Bhargava’s Patang (2011). His performance was praised by the critics.
His role as Faizal Khan in Anurag Kashyap‘s Gangs of Wasseypur (2012) established him as one of the most promising actors in the Indian Film Industry.
In 2012, he was awarded the Special Jury Award at the 60th National Film Awards for his work in the movies Kahaani (2012), Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 1 (2012), Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 2 (2012), Dekh Indian Circus (2011) and Talaash: The Answer Lies Within (2012).
On May 19, 2020, Aaliya revealed in an Interview that she is seeking divorce from Nawazuddin.
He was involved with actress Niharika Singh with whom he worked in Miss Lovely (2012).
He was also involved with actress Sunita Rajwar.
His father Nawabuddin Siddiqui who was paralyzed for a few years, passed away due to brain hemorrhage in 2015. He was 76 years old.
In 2017, he apologized and withdrew his memoir “An Ordinary Life: A Memoir” published by Penguin Random House within a fortnight after its release in October 2017 after his former girlfriends Sunita Rajwar and actress Niharika Singh sued him for defaming them in his memoir and a complaint against him was made with the National Commission for Women (NCW).
His sister, Syama Tamshi Siddiqui passed away in December 2019 due to breast cancer. She was just 26 years old.
He is the only actor in the world to have 8 films officially selected and screened at the Cannes Film Festival.

Nawazuddin lives in an one-bedroom flat in Zohra Nagar, Andheri West, Mumbai with his younger brother, Shamas Nawab Siddiqui who is a director.
